Frank Ramsey: Cambridge’s Unknown Genius

Описание к видео Frank Ramsey: Cambridge’s Unknown Genius

Frank Ramsey was a Cambridge student. Born in 1903, he died of natural causes just before his 27th birthday. In his short life he not only made contributions to mathematics, economics, decision theory, philosophy and logic, but contributions so groundbreaking that his name attaches to them: Ramsey theory in mathematics, Ramsey sentences in logic and philosophy of science, Ramsey savings theory in economics.

He mixed with all of the Cambridge greats of his time: Maynard Keynes, Moore, Russell, Wittgenstein, and the mathematicians G. H. Hardy and John Littlewood.

In this recording of a live online talk, Prof Simon Blackburn of Cambridge University introduces all this and explains something of Ramsey's work, and how important it was.
