In this vdeo I outline the seven steps to writing an excellent research proposal. At the end of the video I give my top 3 tips for research proposal success.

Identify the research problem or question: Clearly articulate the problem or question that you want to investigate in your research. This should be a clear and focused statement that explains the research objective and its significance.

Conduct a literature review: Before writing your research proposal, it is important to conduct a thorough review of existing literature on your topic. This will help you identify the gaps in knowledge that your research can fill.

Define your research approach and methodology: Describe the research approach that you will use to investigate the problem or question. This includes identifying the research design, data collection methods, and analysis techniques you will use.

Develop a budget: Provide a detailed breakdown of the costs associated with conducting your research, including expenses for equipment, travel, and participant compensation.

Write the proposal: After completing the above steps, write your proposal in a clear, concise, and persuasive manner. Make sure to follow any formatting guidelines provided by your institution or funding agency.

Remember, the research proposal is an important document that will be used to evaluate the feasibility and potential impact of your research. Take the time to carefully plan and write your proposal to increase your chances of success.

Finally, I give my top three tips for getting the proposal accepted. These are the areas that can make or break the project.

1. Don't have too many objectives. This can make the proposal seem unfocussed. Identify the biggest problem that you can address, have some subheadings, if needed, but make sure it remains coherent and clear.

2. You methodology needs to be criticism-free. It must be clear that this is the best approach, that it will achieve the objectives and if there are alternative approaches, you need to say why you are not proposing to go those routes.

3. Make it clear that if we look back in five years time that there will be a real, impactful change in knowledge. Make it clear what the end product will look like, what will be known then that is not known now.
