In this video we visit Beckenham, a station along the Armadale Line in Perth's south eastern suburbs. Beckenham sees regular stopping trains along the Armadale Line, while Thornlie Line trains run express through this station, with the junction for the Thornlie Line just beyond the station.

Beckenham station is unique in that it has a staggered platform arrangement, with platforms on both sides of the William Street level crossing, being one of two stations on the Transperth network to feature this arrangement (the other being nearby Kenwick). We start the video on platform 1 where we see stopping and express Transperth A Series EMU's passing through the station. We then move onto platform 2, before visiting the William Street level crossing.

At first glance the level crossing is like any other in the Perth area, however its unique as it's the only one on the Transperth network that features cantilevers with 12-inch flashing lights (thank you ‪@TazzieTransport‬ for pointing that out). We finish the video at a nearby pedestrian crossing where we see trains use the junction with the Thornlie Line.

Beckenham station opened as Higham in November 1954 as part of a timetable change that also saw the opening of Oats Street, and the introduction of diesel railcars in Perth. The station was renamed to Beckenham in 1969.

On the 7th August 2005 the station became the junction for the Thornlie Line when it opened for use. In 2014 a $8.1 million upgrade was completed at the station, which saw the construction of new station buildings.

The station will soon be rebuilt as part of the Victoria Park - Canning Level Crossing Removal Project to remove the William Street level crossing, which will see a new station built above ground. The station will close by late 2023 as part of a planned 18 month shutdown of the Armadale Line to enable works to take place.
