Rocket Power: Beach Bandits is an adventure game based on the Nickelodeon animated television series Rocket Power. It was developed by Evolution Games & Helixe and published by THQ. In North America, it was released on: September 20, 2002, for the PlayStation 2, on September 24, 2002, for the GameCube and on October 19, 2002, for the Game Boy Advance. In PAL regions, it was released on October 25, 2002, for the PlayStation 2 and GameCube.

Supposedly, this game is the successor to Dream Scheme, which came out a year before on the GBA. Although I don't think a lot of people played the GBA version of this because most of them are familiar with the PS2/GameCube versions. Plus, people who grew up with Dream Scheme probably had no idea that Beach Bandits was the direct sequel.

So, what are my thoughts on Beach Bandits? Is it better than Dream Scheme? Well, if I’m being honest, I actually like this OST more than the OST in Dream Scheme, but Dream Scheme is a part of my childhood as it was one of the few GBA games I had (and still have). This game however is very much a rehash of Dream Scheme with redesigned levels, more detailed backgrounds, but at the cost of uglier sprites, and even some of the sound effects and animations from Dream Scheme are still intact. Oddly, the camera has more swing to it in Beach Bandits than Dream Scheme. I found this annoying initially, but I eventually got used to it. It's a minor nitpick, but it is worth mentioning. It should also be noted that, unlike Dream Scheme, this game only has Otto and Twister as playable characters and not Sam and Reggie (excluding Reggie’s secret level). On the plus side, Beach Bandits adds a variety of mini games, and it also introduces several additional gameplay mechanics, including the ability to switch between both characters at any time, whereas this wasn’t possible in Dream Scheme.

Overall, aside from the gameplay improvements, Beach Bandits is more or less identical to Dream Scheme gameplay-wise. If you liked Dream Scheme, you’ll like this one too because it plays very similarly for the most part. It's pretty much what Tony Hawk’s Underground 2 is to Underground 1, if that makes sense.
