Means, With one face two eyed and four hands and with a crown and green complexion, With two hands in Varadha-Abhya Mudra and with spear and power as weapons, one who marks all auspicious beginnings I bow down in front of the great Kaumaari


Kaumari also known as Kumari, Karttikeyani and Ambika is the power of Kumara or Skanda; the war – god .Her depictions resemble that of Kumara. She is ever youthful, representing aspirations in life. Kaumari is also regarded as Guru-Guha the intimate guide who resides in the cave of one’s heart. She is shown seated under a fig tree riding a peacock, which is also her emblem. Her complexion is golden or green ; and is dressed in red garments. She wears garland of red flowers.

Kaumari has four hands; and carries Shakthi and Kukkuta (cockerel) or Ankusha (goad). The other two hands gesture Abhaya and Varada mudras. She is adorned with a makuta said to be bound with Vasika or Vachika. She embodies ideas of valor and courage.

She is the activating force of Lord Murugan (Subramaniam or Kaarthikeya). She has 4 hands displaying Varadha Mudra and Abhaya Mudra, and holds Spear (Vel) as weapon. Her vaahana is peacock, which is also symbolized in Her flag. Shri Kaumari is Lobha Naashinya, meaning She is the destroyer of Lobha or greed and She bestows Her worshipers with ability to transcend greed. She is the representation form of leadership quality in us. Among the seven matrikas, she showers blessings on her devotees very quickly. She can’t see if her devotees are under pain and reacts quickly for acts like piercing vel into tongue or spiked kavadis into their backs.
