(5 Mar 2017) People gathered in Zeebrugge on Sunday to mark the 30th anniversary of the sinking of the British ferry, the Herald of Free Enterprise.
The ship capsized on the 6 March 1987 shortly after leaving the Belgian port.
The accident caused the deaths of 193 passengers and crew members - the largest loss of life involving a British ship during peacetime since 1919.
Survivors, victims' relatives and rescue workers attended a church service to commemorate the disaster on Sunday, followed by a wreath laying ceremony.
Among the attendees was Britain's Kim Spooner, who was eight years-old when her aunt and uncle died aboard the ship.
"I just felt it was the right thing to come back on the 30th and pay my respects, and thank the Belgian people for everything they did that night," she said.
Rene Tytgat, a nursing officer at the time of the accident, said that those present still "feel empathy" towards the victims and their families.
