Digging Grindavík Road Through Glowing Red Hot Lava, Iceland Sundhnúka Volcano Eruption Update.

Activity in the eruption has been stable for the past 24 hours and lava is now flowing almost exclusively to the east and southeast, to and along Fagradalsfjall. The lava spread has not spread much near Fagradalsfjall, but continues to thicken. Eruption has been constant along with the activity in the crater. The erosion around Svartsengi has decreased significantly, but since the changes between days are minor, the development over a few days needs to be looked at to assess whether landrising has started again.
The gas distribution forecast predicts a northeasterly 10-15 m/s in Reykjanes today (Thursday) and gas pollution therefore travels to the southwest towards Grindavík. Lows tonight and pollution could be noticed in many parts of Reykjanes, but the wind will pick up again from the northeast tomorrow (Friday) and gas will then travel back towards Grindavík. Wildfires are not expected at the eruption sites.

Some of the thumbnail images are produced by recent advances in Artificial Intelligence. They are just pretty pictures that AI is producing when a text describes a volcanic event or geological phenomenon for them. They are by no means represent the reality and are used here only for their graphical merits in video thumbnails.
