Massive crowds thronged Odisha’s main temples as devotees from across the state and outside gathered in Puri to seek the blessings of Lord Jagannath. The Bada Danda was packed with devotees eager for darshan, with entry through barricades at the Singhadwara of Sri Mandir and exit through the three gates. At night, Mahabahu gave darshan, and thousands continued to arrive throughout the night. Similar scenes were witnessed at Lord Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar and at the sacred seat of Maa Tarini in Ghatgaon, where devotees offered prayers on New Year’s Eve.

Meanwhile, on the streets, Swiggy and Blinkit gig workers planned a strike on December 31, coinciding with peak food delivery demand. Workers raised concerns over low payouts, rising fuel costs, lack of insurance, and job security, saying the system is pushing them to the edge.
