Teaching is inherently an ethical activity. As teachers, we always are involved with the lives of others, and what we do and how we do it potentially has significant consequences for those lives. What does it mean to be implicated in the lives of others, particularly in those years when so much of their development occurs?

This webinar examines the place of ethics in the act of teaching and the role of “teacher,” with particular concern about the question of student formation. It focuses on the complex relationship between the ethics “in” teaching, how one acts with one’s role, and the ethics “of” teaching, the ethical duties that come with assuming the role of teacher. How can one best meet those duties amidst competing demands, pressures, and time constraints? This session will address those issues and concentrate on ethical practices that teachers can develop in order to enhance the ability to meet the ethical duties associated with the role of “teacher.”
