Controversy hit at the 2003 NBA 3-Point Shootout. After Peja Stojakovic and Wesley Person both scored 20 points in their initial final round outing, a scorekeeper error led to the buzzer sounding midway through Stojakovic's tie-breaking round, resulting in an underwhelming score. Stojakovic was given the opportunity to re-attempt his tiebreaking round. On his second go-around, Stojakovic improved his score by 10, clinching the 2003 title.

This was the second consecutive season in which the 3-Point Shooting title was decided by a tie-breaking round between Wesley Person and Peja Stojakovic. However, in the 2002, the tie-breaking round was only 24 seconds long, in contrast to the full minute provided in 2003, perhaps leading to the initial clock confusion.

First Round: 0:00
Final Round: 1:43
Tie-Breaker: 3:44
Tie-Breaker Re-Shoot: 6:11
