👉How your drive turns into ESD Drive?

If you accidently selected another drive instead of the USB drive. Windows would format it (deleting all your data) and make a copy of Windows installation disk on that drive. Whatever the size of the drive may have been previously, it would now only show 32GB space in the drive.

👉How to Recover Data from an ESD Drive?

So, the most important step here is to recover and save your data. If you had important data on the disk drive that was accidently turned into ESD USB, try a Professional Data recovery tool- Tenorshare 4DDiG. It can not only recover deleted data but also recover complete lost drives, crash computers and so much more. It supports 1000+ data types such as photos, video, audio, documents, etc. To recover data from the lost drive, download and install 4DDiG from the official website. Run the program. Once 4DDiG has opened, select the ESD drive and click the Start button. You can choose target file types to scan. or just click all and start the scan. The scan will take some time to search for all the lost files. If your files are not found by normal scan you can let 4DDiG continue on with the deep scan. Otherwise just click cancel. After the scanning, select the data you want to retrieve and click Recover to save it to another drive for safekeeping. Now all your data on the ESD drive has been recovered.

👉Method 1. Format the disk drive

Go to This PC and right click on the ESD drive. Select Format. Select the NTFS option from the File System dropdown menu and click format. Wait and let windows format the drive and it will be ready to use. However, please note it will only show 32GB free space. Follow the methods below to learn how to get all the space back.

👉Method 2. Use CMD to delete and format the disk drive

Search for CMD in the start menu and click run as administrator.Type CHKDSK D: /f
Here, D is the drive letter for your drive. Press Enter.
Let the scan complete, it will fix any errors with the drive. Then type: Diskpart
Now type Disklist. Select the disk drive and type "Select Disk 1". Here disk 1 is the ESD disk. Now type clean and press enter. After cleaning type "Create Partition Primary" and press enter. Now enter format fs=ntfs label-new quick. Finally type "Assign letter=f". This will create a NTFS drive with letter f. Type exit to close CMD.

👉Method 3. Use Disk Management to delete and format the disk drive

Open Disk Management and select the ESD Drive. Right click it and select Delete. This will delete the ESD partition and the 32GB space it had previously will be added to unallocated space. Now select the unallocated space and click create volume. Assign the drive space and letter. Right click and format it to NTFS. Now your drive is ready for use.
