Southern Ontario is no untrammeled wilderness, nevertheless its forests harbour undiscovered populations of rare plants. Since 2014 I've been using species distribution models to find these hidden gems, and testing the role of land ownership and forest configuration in predicting their occurrence. I'll discuss our plans for Ontario's first plant translocation trials, some population genetic work on the endangered wood-poppy, and a pilot project investigating insect visitors to the endangered spotted wintergreen.
