On October 28, 2025, the X-59 took to the skies for the very first time.
From takeoff at Lockheed Martin’s Skunk Works® in Palmdale to touchdown at NASA’s Armstrong Flight Research Center, the mission was flawless — marking a new chapter in the story of human flight.

The X-59 is designed to rewrite the rules of supersonic travel. Using a revolutionary airframe and a precision-shaped nose, it transforms the sharp boom of breaking the sound barrier into a quiet sonic thump — a sound subtle enough to open the door for overland supersonic travel once again.

Through NASA’s Quesst Mission, researchers will gather community response data from test flights, giving regulators what they need to finally lift the ban on commercial supersonic flight over land.
