In this lesson, I explain the two meanings of the term “declension”, and then I proceed to explain what the “first declension” is and how nouns in the first declension change their endings.

The labels that I use for the four subgroups of nouns within the first declension - “1a nouns”, “1b nouns”, “1c nouns”, and “1d nouns” - come from JACT’s excellent “Reading Greek” course.
