The character is played by long-time broadway actress Chita Rivera, and she actually played Velma Kelly in the original production of Chicago. Also, John C. Reilly is such a clown enthusiast that he insisted on designing his own clown makeup for the Mister Cellophane number. He also convinced them to include the application of the makeup in the film as well.
