How do we know a numerical value is stored as a string (string means text) or integer. If it is enclosed by single quotes or double quotes, it is a string value Eg. '3' , "3".
If the quotes are not there, then it is an integer. Eg. 3
This applies to numerical value with decimal as well. Eg. 3.5 and "3.5".
If the numerical number is a whole number, we call it an integer. If it is not a whole number, we call it a float.

Beginner may get confused when they use + operator if they do not understand the difference between a string and an integer. This simple (short video) and short example may be helpful to illustrate how it works.
String + String , python will perform a string concatenation.
integer + integer, python will perform a summation of integer values (Addition)
