Hello! I'm Julie Shindler-Cohen from Michigan associates of Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine. We do a lot of herbal medicine in our practice in many different forms, and I wanted to tell you today a little bit about herbal tinctures. Herbal tinctures are Chinese formulas that are cooked and prepared and then put in liquid form, often times or in our case in alcohol-based forms. They're great because it's easy to comply, easy to take, and the taste is not unbearable. In fact, some people say it's quite pleasant. So when you're prescribed an herbal tincture, it comes in a bottle like this depending and depending on what the dosage is, it could be anywhere from fifty drops to one hundred drops two to three times a day. People are instructed to use a medicine dropper and count out the drops maybe once or twice and then put these drops into boiling water to burn off the alcohol. And then they drink it down a few times a day to achieve their treatment principle. Sometimes one bottle of formula might be enough to treat the condition, but oftentimes if we're working with a more chronic condition, it's something people will take for weeks months at a time. I would love to answer any other herbal questions you might have and feel free to call or email us too! Thank you.
