CTU President Davis Gates reminds us that democracy isn’t abstract — it’s built every day by the people who organize, challenge injusitce, and protect their communities when government fails them.

At Funston Elementary, she lifted up the work of these brave educators who turned their contract into a shield for their students and put solidarity into practice when federal agents attacked their neighborhood.

She also named what makes this moment different: a city government that listens to the people instead of turning its back on them. President Davis Gates called on all of us to meet this moment with the same courage and unity that generations before us showed when they fought for justice, safety, and dignity.
