Koh Samet is a small island in the Gulf of Thailand, part of the Khao Laem Ya–Mu Ko Samet National Park in Rayong province.

It is a popular weekend getaway from Bangkok, known for its beautiful white-sand beaches, clear turquoise waters, and vibrant nightlife.

Getting to and around Koh Samet -

Ferries and speedboats
You can reach Koh Samet by taking a ferry or speedboat from Ban Phe Pier on the mainland in Rayong.

Speedboat: Takes about 10–15 minutes and costs more. Private speedboats and shared options are available.

Ferry: A slower and cheaper option, taking around 45–50 minutes. Ferries typically depart from Ban Phe Pier to Nadan Pier on Koh Samet.

Island transportation -

Songthaews: These are shared taxis that transport people around the island. They are often waiting at Nadan Pier when a boat arrives.

Motorbike rentals: Available for daily rental, allowing for more flexibility in exploring the island.

Walking: Many of the beaches on the eastern side are interconnected by walking paths.

Important information -

National Park fee: Since Koh Samet is part of a national park, a fee is collected upon arrival. For foreigners, this is 200 baht.

Island village: The small port village of Nadan is the main hub on the island.

Popular and lively beaches -

Sai Kaew Beach: Also known as Diamond Beach, this is the most popular and longest beach, located close to the main pier. It features soft, white sand, clear water, and is lined with restaurants and hotels. At night, many restaurants, such as Ploy Talay, host fire shows.

Ao Wong Duan: The second-largest beach, known for its busy atmosphere with many resorts and dining options.

Ao Phai: Situated just south of Sai Kaew Beach, this beach offers a slightly more relaxed atmosphere while still being close to the action.
