The shape of a 2D gameobject is defined by the Collider 2D component. There are 6 types of 2D colliders associated with a gameobject in 2D physics. These colliders are

Circle Collider 2D(CircleCollider2D), Box Collider 2D(BoxCollider2D), Polygon Collider 2D(PolygonCollider2D), Edge Collider 2D(EdgeCollider2D), Capsule Collider 2D

(Capsule Collider 2D) and Composite Collider 2D(CompositeCollider2D). The Circle Collider 2D is used for round shapes. The Box Collider 2D is used for rectangular

shapes. The Polygon Collider 2D is used for shapes that have many sides(Egs, square, pentagon, hexagon etc). The Edge Collider 2D is used where the shape is not fixed.

The Capsule Collider 2D is used for gameobjects that have a capsule shape. The Composite collider 2D is used to make a collider out of many different box colliders

and/or polygon colliders.

We discuss about the two shared properties of all colliders like is Trigger(isTrigger) property and Material property. The is Trigger property make the collider a

trigger collider. The Material property helps us to attach a physics 2D material to any gameobject and give that gameobject friction or bounciness. In this tutorial we

also discuss about the Platform Effector 2D. This is used to create a platform with collision detection on only one side. The used by Effector checkbox needs to be

checked if we want to give some special physics effects. Lastly we discuss about the collision offset property. Collision offset property helps us to shift the

position of the collider with respect to the game object. We discuss these topics by taking a simple ball and a log in the Unity project.

There are various Collider 2D component used in this tutorial with easy examples for your understanding. The Collider2d component is necessary to attach to any

gameobject for physics collisions. Collider 2d is necessary in almost all projects of Unity. Physics and colliders are closely related as i demonstrate that in this

tutorial. We discuss about edge and circle colliders and the way how they are different than one another. Collider is a component that gives collision property to any

game object. In order to make simple Unity 2d games, you should understand about Collider 2D component. You can make a simple Unity 2d platformer if you follow this

video. Unity Rigidbody puts any game object under the forces of gravity. We discuss Unity Physics material with an example of a bouncing ball.

This is a Unity tutorial for beginners. You will understand about the Unity trigger or is Trigger collider property. Unity Mesh collider is used to give a collision

property to various meshes. We have discussed about Unity collision in detail. Unity collider can work without a Rigidbody being attached to a gameobject. This Unity

2D tutorial will help you in understanding the various properties of different colliders. In this Unity tutorial we have also discussed about the platform effectors

and composite collider 2D. You can refer this Collider 2D component tutorial for indie game development. Unity Composite colliders are used to make a complex collider

from individual or multiple box collider and/or polygon colliders.
