BOONE COUNTY, Ky. (Joe Webb) -- A Boone County sheriff's deputy's job hung in the balance after an unusual arrest landed him in jail.

11 year veteran Scotty Hill was charged with alcohol intoxication and domestic violence after threatening to shoot his spouse and kill himself. This was not Hill's first trouble with the sheriff's office.

Deputy Scotty D. Hill has been suspended and reprimanded by the sheriff before but never charged with a crime. That was until Tuesday night, July 8. Deputies said that after drinking at his rural Verona home, he struggled with his wife and threatened to shoot her.

Tom Scheben of the Boone County sheriff's office said, "The man's wife actually called one of our deputies on his cellphone and said, 'Can you get down here and help me out? Scotty's been drinking and he just kicked in a door.'"

The phone went dead. When deputies arrived they found Scotty Hill at the intersection of Poole Road and Mudlick Verona Road. They said he was drunk, armed and riding a horse. He told them he was going to the store for more alcohol.

Scotty Hill was no stranger to controversy. In 2008, while off-duty, he shot and killed a woman in Nicholas County while trying to buy a horse from her nephew. It was self-defense. He was never charged. Hill's been described as an average sheriff's deputy
