"Crossing The Leopold" is a dark country / outlaw blues tribute to the Canadian soldiers who fought and sacrificed in the brutal Battle of the Scheldt during World War II.

This song tells the true story of Leo “Bud”, a young infantryman from Lanark, Ontario, who served with The Algonquin Regiment and crossed the Leopold Canal under heavy fire—three times—in the push to liberate the Netherlands.

Bud was a Bren gunner, a farm boy turned warrior, part of the First Canadian Army, 4th Canadian Division,10th Canadian Infantry Brigade, who saw action across France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Holland (Netherlands) in WWII. He survived the horrors of Scheldt, where over 6,367 Canadians became casualties, and came home to raise a family—but carried the pain and memory of his fallen brothers for the rest of his life.
