The porters of Runas Expeditions are the most valuable people of the Inca trail and for other trek tours. The Inca Trail and the other Treks Tours truly could not function like it does without them. They are the hardest working people on the trail and have the hardest jobs – and they do it with a smile on their faces. They have an innate pride and joy in providing comfort and making things easier. They run from camp to camp! They sometimes make us feel lazy, and they always make us happy.

We clearly understand that we could not succeed without our team of porters ‘ THE BLUE GIANTS’. Our porters have always promised that they will work endlessly to make each hiker a magical and unforgettable trip, so we have made an equally important promise to do everything possible to make this difficult work a little less daunting.

All our porters live in the communities outside of Cusco, generally 3 to 5 hours away. We cover all entrance fees ($ 15 US per porters) and transportation for our porters, separate from their salary. They are paid directly after the trip, which prevents them from traveling back to Cusco before returning home. Unfortunately, this is not common. They receive better salaries, medical insurance and all their equipment for free. This includes trekking boots, pants, jerseys, fleeces, jackets, hats, flashlights, sleeping bags, and food to eat. We make sure they have a comfortable bed in a beautiful room (Runas Porters House) to sleep before and after the trekking tour instead of crashing on the floor like most of the other porters.

We visit the communities in which they live and supply toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap and other necessary supplies to their families. Books for their students.

we already have a foundation called 'CHILLIHUANI FOUNDATION' we chose this Inca community because it is the poorest population in the whole department of Cusco and many of our porters live there.

This is just the beginning for us and we will always be looking for ways to do more and provide better benefits for our porters.
