Race continues to be key factor in SA politics

Political parties have long vied for the support of the coloured and
black population, which forms one of the largest demographic groups in
the Western Cape.

The Institute of Justice and Reconciliation says it could play a
pivotal role in shaping the region's electoral outcome.

Some believe that beneath the surface of the rainbow nation lies a
history marred by the scars of racial division and inequality, giving
rise to the complex relationship between race and politics.
