Largo Law, from Upper Largo
Largo Law - the eroded plug of an ancient volcano - rises sharply above the farmland and fields of eastern Fife. It is a superb viewpoint, though the ascent is very steep. A sign advises that dogs are not permitted on the hill by the farmer between March to November (due to the presence of cattle), and should be kept on a lead / under close control due to sheep at other times.

TERRAIN
Rough path, some sections can be very muddy. The hill section is very steep and can be slippery, particularly in descent.

A circular walk starting and finishing in Lower Largo.
Distance: 10.5 km / 6.5 miles
Ascent: 400 m / 1300 feet
Terrain: Paths and tracks which can be muddy. Steep eroded path up hill. Short quiet road sections.
Start / finish: Lower Largo
Facilities: Free car park at Temple Hill, toilets at the car park, bus service (95) to Lower Largo, refreshments in Lower Largo (other parking places available along the route)
Exit the car park via steps on to the route of an old railway line where you head east out of Lower Largo. At a ruin 500m after leaving the town use a pedestrian gate on your left to access a farm track. Head inland through some gates to reach Buckthorns. Follow the sign around the farm and turn left through the steadings (don’t go out to the road). A grassy path leads to Upper Largo.
Turn right on to the road and then left on the main road. Go right on to a back road signed for the cemetery. 350m along this road you will reach the school / cemetery at the start of the hill path described above.
On your return from the hill turn right, away from Upper Largo, for 100m. A core path marker directs you left along a grass field edge path passing the ruins of Largo House Home Farm to your left. Cross the road to pick up a path on the opposite side into Keil’s Den woodland. Go right on the unsurfaced path through mixed woodland high above the Keil Burn. When you reach the burn crossing you have the choice of wading through the burn or keeping your feet dry by going out on to the road and using the road bridge.
The path turns south on the opposite side of the burn. There are some good viewpoints across to Largo Law from this section. After passing two bench seats an obvious path goes off to your left downhill to the burn and a footbridge. Cross over the bridge and stay on the obvious path through more woodland until you exit the woods opposite a caravan park.
Turn right and walk down the road back to Lower Largo. Once back at the village you can follow the road down to the harbour and then use the coastal path through narrow streets back to the car park. Alternatively, to avoid most of the road walk, you can go left on to a higher-level road after the bus stop on the harbour road. This road brings you to a car park, at the far end of which is access to the old railway. Use the railway route back to the Temple Hill car park.
