Dodge Charger Super Bee name was actually a clever pun. Sure, it gave Mother Mopar an excuse to use yet another cartoon character to imply that someone would get stung somewhere down the line. But those in the know realized that the Coronet and Charger were referred to as B-bodies. With a big-block under the hood, this was indeed a super B, and it enjoyed modest success, selling more than 50,000 copies over three years. (Alas, in the face of Road Runner sales, topping 82,000 units in 1969 alone, this was but a pittance.)

With many Dodge Charger of the 1960s and ’70s now being rusty abandoned car also out of reach for many first-time classic car buyers. And with this being among the most traditionally engineered cars of its generation, it makes an excellent DIY build muscle car and Old Car Classic Restoration Project.

Model year 1971 was a year of seemingly massive but ultimately superficial change for the Super Bee. The body was completely new: Fuselage styling had taken over at Chrysler, and voluptuous fender curves, a long tapered nose, short deck and a wide C-pillar were all Charger styling features; it made the previous generation Charger look positively formal in comparison
