"We expect another Christmas story to be told,
But that's boring! Let's try this.
It is time for a Christmassy mashup,
With 11 soundfonts playing tunes like THIS!"
Here's a mashup of 11 different soundfonts playing highlights from Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker, for Christmas 2024.
1 Miniature Overture - skips delicately, the atmosphere of charmed fantasy heightened by omitting bass instruments, by the Pokemon Diamond and Pearl Soundfont.
2 March - an exciting profusion of fanfares and swirling strings, played by the Dragon Quest 4 Soundfont.
3 Battle + The Prince: a raging composition with brooding winds and strings, with trumpets, followed by a grand melody representing the Nutcracker unmasked, through the Super Mario 64 soundfont.
4 Dance of the Sugar-Plum Fairy - the perfect application of the newly-invented celesta, played by Mario Party DS soundfont.
5 Spanish Dance - Spanish sounds abound with a brilliant solo for the trumpet, ala Kirby Soundfont.
6 Arabian Dance - slow, sinuous, exotic (and just a touch erotic?), through Oriental vibes based on a Georgian lullaby, played with the Mario Kart Super Circuit Soundfont
7 Chinese Dance - full of shimmering trills and fluttering melodies for the flute (which is known for its sparkling melodies), along with the glittering glockenspiel and a bassoon representing a singing Chinese dragon, played by the Super Mario SNES Soundfont.
8 Russian Dance (Trepak) - I NEED A PRESENT FOR MY WIFE... or so you thought, with the Strawberry Shortcake TV Soundfont playing this fast and lively Russian dance. Ready, steady, GO!
9 Dance of the Toy Flutes - Flutes provide the winsome grace and airiness through dainty little "polka", yet making the flutes sound sparkling and light, with a middle section for the brass and strings; played by the LeapFrog Leap-font. Chances are, you've heard a part of it in Counting on Leap for the LeapPad player, now hear the original.
10 Waltz of the Flowers - brimming with grace and elegance, Tchaikovsky's most inspired foray into the form of the French Valse for the lovely blooms in the Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time soundfont.
11 Finale - The ballet’s final waltz is, expectedly, a grand affair. The coda (Apotheosis) has the celesta join the harps, making the mood much more magical, ending a beautiful, yet fantastical Christmas dream -- and it's played by the Laugh and Learn musical instrument sounds from Timothy Steven Clarke.
