病床数が減り、医者も去り、救急病院もなくなった夕張市では死亡率、医療費、救急車の出動回数、全てが下がった。近くに総合病院があるということ以上に価値のあることとは一体？

横浜生まれ。一橋大学経済学部を卒業後、宮崎医科大学医学部に入学。北海道夕張市立診療所所長を経て、現在は鹿児島県で研究・執筆を中心に活動している。
専門は在宅医療・地域医療・医療政策など。平成24年には、医事新報で「夕張希望の杜の軌跡」を１年間連載。
日本内科学会認定内科医、日本医師会認定産業医、日本ヘリコバクター学会H.pylori（ピロリ菌）感染症認定医。

Born in Yokohama, after graduating from Hitotsubashi University’s economics department, he entered the medical department at Miyazaki Medical School. He was chief of a public clinic in Yuubari City in Hokkaido. At present he is focussing his activities on research and writing in Kagoshima Prefecture. He is specializing in home healthcare, regional treatment and healthcare policy. In 2012 he wrote a series for a medical newspaper titled “The forest path of Yuubari’s hopes”.
He is certified by the Japanese Society of Internal Medicine in internal medicine, the Japan Association of Medical Practitioners in industrial health and the Japanese Society for Helicobacter Research in infectious diseases.
