As October begins, concerns about cyclones rise in Odisha. Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Director General Mrityunjay Mohapatra has informed that a low-pressure area is likely to form in the southeast Bay of Bengal around October 21. This system is expected to move west-northwest and may intensify into a cyclone by October 23 near the south and central Bay of Bengal, potentially impacting Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and southern Andhra Pradesh.
The system could bring winds of 30 to 55 km/h from October 21 to 23. Fishermen have been advised to remain cautious, and those currently at sea are urged to return to shore by October 21. IMD DG emphasized that no cyclone warning has yet been issued for Odisha and any forecasts will be updated after the formation of the low-pressure area.
“Currently, warnings have been issued for the next seven days, and no forecasts are made for October 29 as of now,” said IMD DG Mrityunjay Mohapatra. The situation will be closely monitored, and further updates will follow as the weather develops.
