Jimmy Jam, alongside longtime production partner Terry Lewis, defined an era with their groundbreaking songwriting, working alongside the S.O.S. Band, Change, Alexander O’Neal, Prince, Mariah Carey, George Michael, New Edition, and countless others throughout the 1980s and early 1990s. Grammy Award wins and nominations are a mainstay of their career, and their longstanding partnership with Janet Jackson would net them nine number-ones on the Billboard Hot 100. As Jimmy Jam’s work remains as infectious and powerful as ever, we had the privilege of showing him some of the iconic synths, drum machines, and more in Sweetwater’s Gear Museum, where he regaled us with tales of the personal and professional variety.
