Crane soon developed an unhealthy obsession with the power of phobias and created a powerful fear toxin that eventually led him down the path to becoming known as the "Master of Fear".

Interesting facts about Scarecrow:
∙ Jonathan Crane is actually one of the most brilliant minds in Gotham City with his highly regarded philosophy on psychology. This is of course before he became the villain we know him as now.
∙ In his very first appearance, the only weapon Scarecrow used was a gun and his own intimidation tactics, he wouldn't create his fear toxin until many years later.
∙ Crane suffers from a unique phobia known as corvidophobia (fear of crows) from his tragic childhood.
∙ Scarecrow was once offered a yellow lantern ring, but Hal Jordon and John Stewart intercepted the ring before it got to him. He would later get another chance to become a member of the Corp.
