How FRIENDLY are the People of KOSOVO? Exploring PRIZREN FORTRESS

Exploring the incredible Prizren Fortress positioned on top of a hill overlooking the city. I met some friendly locals, admired the views and learnt some history. Welcome to my Prizren vlog!

After an enjoyable day in the city centre of Prizren I decided to walk up to the hilltop fortress and take a look around. I found some information signs and a map close to the Sinan Pasha Mosque and managed to find my way up the steep slopes and through a pretty little neighbourhood to the top. It was fairly straightforward and I was pleased not to get myself lost amongst the houses and overgrown lanes. Although steep the views on the way up kept me motivated – seemingly each section offered up a whole new perspective on the city below.

Prizren Fortress was built during the 6th century although evidence of early civilisations has been found there. Whilst the Byzantine Empire was responsible for the original construction and ideas, it was the Serbian Empire followed by the Ottoman Turks who further expanded and developed the fortification. Whilst the scenery from the top was magnificent it was also a lot of fun to walk around the fortress and even explore some of the ruined sections both above and underground.

Whilst exploring I met some friendly locals who told me about the area, the two youngest even had a go at vlogging using my camera – suffice to say they were naturals who I’m sure will have their own YouTube channel someday. It was great to meet them all.

After spending a couple of hours at the fortress I decided to hike into the forests and get a taste of what else was about. There I found some more ruins, a spectacular panoramic view of the lush green mountains as well as the mysterious remains of another ancient castle perched on a distant hilltop.

I got back to the castle just in time to see day turn into night and enjoy the city lights from above – it was a spectacular scene.
