I was on one of my walks when I saw this gorgeous Cardinal and heard it sweetly singing, so I captured it on video to share. Next, Heinz and I were planning on doing some landscape work when we came across this approximately 4' Sonoran Gopher snake. You hear me counting in the video 1, 2, 3 and I am counting the bricks in the fence to estimate the size of the snake. Each brick is 16" which x 3 is 48" or 4'. The snake seemed to be very close to 3 bricks long. What do you think? Next, we see the lone Mule Deer doe. I think we saw each other about the same time. We got a good look at each other without any drama, then went on our respective ways. I was on another walk when I looked up at a street light and saw a Cooper's Hawk hunting from his perch on it. Smart move. It gives the hawk a great view and saves energy for him. This was near Los Agaves restaurant on La Canada near the intersection with Continental. Next was the Javelina encounter. I think I saw it first and I was ready to capture the encounter on video. Again, a lovely encounter without drama. As mentioned in the video, I had just walked up my across the street neighbor's driveway to take up her newspaper and mail. Her driveway is long and steep, and she will be 97 in December, so she cannot manage that trip on foot very well. As I neared the top, I thought I saw something move. Sure enough, there was family of Mule Deer looking at me. I dropped off the paper and mail and pulled out my camera to record this encounter. Everything was very calm, and again, it was a wonderful encounter! Lastly, I was on yet another walk when I noticed something quite small moving quickly ahead of me on the road. Once I realized what it was, I set my cellphone down near it on the street so the viewer could have some sense of scale. This little Regal Horned lizard was tiny! My camera kept trying to focus on the street instead of the lizard, so I took a snapshot from the video where you can see the lizard clearly, and stretched it out for about 10 seconds so you could get a good look. These are things I see just going about daily life here in Green Valley AZ. I hope you enjoyed the video!
