Cancer cells use glucose for energy, but so do all healthy cells in our body. The idea that “one spoon of sugar will make cancer grow faster” is a myth that creates fear and guilt in patients. What really matters is the overall quality of diet, body weight, physical activity, and metabolic health – not a single food or ingredient.​

In this video, as a medical oncologist I have explained why completely eliminating sugar is not a magic anti-cancer strategy and can even be harmful by causing unnecessary weight loss, weakness, and poor nutrition. Instead, the focus should be on balanced eating: limiting sugary drinks and ultra-processed foods, choosing whole grains, fruits, and vegetables, and maintaining a healthy weight and active lifestyle.​
