QuaranLieder #3: Wild Roses and Unwelcome Attention

Описание к видео QuaranLieder #3: Wild Roses and Unwelcome Attention

QuaranLieder #3 is a request from @ opustechnica on Twitter- they asked for "something spiky" and my brain immediately went to one of Schubert's most famous Lieder, "Heidenröslein". I know a lot of people think this is just a simple song, but Goethe had such a beautiful way with words- "morgenschön" is such a one, for example. The story is a familiar one, and if you come at it in the viewpoint of the rose, rather than narrator, it's a little ridiculous- almost passive aggressive in it's unrelenting jaunty tune. There have been plenty of times in my life where I just laugh through an unwelcome encounter!!! This was recorded off the cuff, so as always listen in context- I'm not in a state of the art concert hall with a 5 mic setup, ya know.

TRANSLATION:
A boy saw a wild rose
growing in the heather;
it was so young, and as lovely as the morning.
He ran swiftly to look more closely,
looked on it with great joy.
Wild rose, wild rose, wild rose red,
wild rose in the heather.
Said the boy: I shall pluck you,
wild rose in the heather!
Said the rose: I shall prick you
so that you will always remember me.
And I will not suffer it.
Wild rose, wild rose, wild rose red,
wild rose in the heather.
And the impetuous boy plucked
the wild rose from the heather;
the rose defended herself and pricked him,
but her cries of pain were to no avail;
she simply had to suffer.
Wild rose, wild rose, wild rose red,
wild rose in the heather.
