My ashram experience is my own experience story living in Sivananda Ashram in Kerala India. Living in an ashram is a worthy experience if you have the intention to live a simple and basic life. I was in Sivananda ashram as part of the yoga vacation program than takes part all the year around.
The ashrams are the houses of the spiritual guides. The people that join these masters are supposed to live in a way that implies a simple lifestyle with the rules that these spiritual guides follow.
The rules that most of the ashram have are mostly being in silence, the practice of meditation and yoga, eating sattvic food and daily satsang.
Because most of the ashrams are ruled by yogis, many pilgrims and followers are also involved in the practice of yoga. It is also part of the yogi lifestyle to live in a simple, austere way. Also practicing asana and chanting regularly.
The Sivananda ashram in Kerala is a beautiful place to discover. It has a daily schedule that implies the practice of asanas twice a day, assisting to the satsangs, karma yoga, and meditation.
