N-P-K are the important numbers. They stand for Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium (K). getting your soil tested will ive you the best way to know exactly what your soil needs in the way of fertilizer.
Typically, Nitrogen makes you lawn very green for a time. A slow release nitrogen can extend that greening period. Phosphorus stimulates root growth and is great for flowers blooming - BUT too much phopherous can be bad as it remains in the soil and can build up!
Potassium (K) helps, fight disease, drought and brings cold hardiness.
