The beating of the Retreat is an age-old tradition in the Indian Army which commemorates the retreat of soldiers at the battlefield after sunset. This tradition signifies the retreat of soldiers, sheathing of arms and lowering of flags.

The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind arrives at Vijay Chowk in the ceremonial motorcade and is received by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. The Vice President, M Venkaiah Naidu is also in attendance at the function.
