Quantum properties of nanoparticles to fight cancer

Physics and medicine are highly intertwined, especially after technological development allowed to exploit basic physical properties of matter to enhance diagnosis and treatment of disease (think of ecography, functional magnetic resonance, radiotherapy...).
Quantum properties of matter are, however, quite a new field of interest for medical applications, which blossomed after the revolutionary idea of using nanoparticles as carriers of therapeutic molecules inside the body.
In this MeetScience episode we will deal of how quantum properties of macromolecules can be exploited to target specifically cancer cells with minimally invasive approaches together with Akhil Jain, an outstanding young scientist in the field.
If the approach to exploit the quantum properties of the macro-molecule macro-particle conjugates will prove effective also on a living being the treatment of many diseases might be impacted especially those involving alterations in the electrical properties of cells
