Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation TAVI

Описание к видео Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation TAVI

Transcatheter aortic valve implantation involves inserting a catheter into a blood vessel in the upper leg or chest and passing it towards the aortic valve. The catheter is then used to guide and fix a replacement valve over the top of the old one.
The advantages of this technique are that the heart doesn't need to be stopped and it avoids making a large cut in the chest.
As discussed in the video, for patients who are above 60 or 70 years of age or not physically fit to undergo the surgery or prone to a surgical complication, TAVR is a lifesaver.
