Optometry Australia’s workshop will focus on the role of Primary Health Care nurses in both acute and chronic eye care. The workshop will focus on a number of case studies and engage delegates to differentially diagnose and consider management and appropriate referral pathways. Cases will cover both anterior and posterior eye disease and target different nurse practices. The session will aim to specifically assist nurse practitioners on the best way to assess and manage children as well as consider the most appropriate care for aged-related conditions in geriatric settings.

After graduating from the University of Melbourne in 2003, Simon spent 2 years at the Australian College of Optometry, consulting and completing his Clinical Residency before moving into the private sector. He opened his own private clinic in 2006. He completed his Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Clinical Optometry in 2006 and his Postgraduate Certificate in Ocular Therapeutics in 2007. In 2011 he returned to The University of Melbourne as a Senior Clinical Teaching Instructor where he lectured and supervised students for 4 years. He has been in his current role as National Clinical Policy Adviser with Optometry Australia for 2 years.
