Latvia's Finance Minster Janis Reirs speaks on financial education at the Financial Education Roundtable in Brussels on 9 March, organized by the European Banking Federation.

JĀNIS REIRS is Minister of Finance of the Republic of Latvia since November 2014. He is also Head of the Control Committee in the Nordic Investment Bank before holding the position of Deputy Head for one year.

From 2010 to 2014, Mr Reirs was Member of the 10th and 11th Parliament (Saeima) of the Republic of Latvia, and Chairperson of the Saeima Budget and Finance (Taxation) Commission.
Since 2002, Mr Reirs works at the Baltic Assembly in the position of President of the Baltic Assembly, Head of Latvian delegation and Presidium Member of the Baltic Assembly. From 2006 to 2010, he was a Member of the 9th Saeima of the Republic of Latvia, Secretary of Legal Affairs Commission, the standing committee – Public Expenditure and Audit Commission. He then became Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Latvia.
In the past, Mr Reirs held several positions such as Minister for Special Assignments of the Republic of Latvia – Electronic Government Affairs (2004-2006), Member of the 8th Saeima of the Republic of Latvia (2002–2006), Secretary of the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia (2002– 2004), Standing committee member of the Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference (2004), Chairperson of the Board of a chemical plant Spodrība (2001–2002), Partner of Prudentia, Director (1999–2002), Member of the Board of Trasta komercbanka, Vice-President, Head of Administrative Unit (1996–1999), and at the Latvian-German Bank, Head of Credit Division (1993–1996).
Janis Reirs holds a Professional Master’s Degree in Economics from the University of Latvia.
