Hiking to waterfalls in the rain - the wettest week vacationing on Oahu / Ep. 126 Living in Hawaii

There are two parts of Hawaii, well maybe three - the mountain, the ocean and the people. And when you come to Hawaii you should experience those three things. The culture and the majestic beauty of the land is not to be missed. Beaches are beautiful - but there is adventure and world class hiking hidden in the trees of all the islands.

For their winter break - our family from Tahoe and Colorado came out to join us and I wanted them to truly enjoy the Mauka (or mountains) of Oahu. With limited time and a whole lot of wet and rainy conditions we only managed three hikes.

Day one was the spent on the north shore hiking up to E

Day two was spent near the Pali lookout at Lulumahu Falls which requires a permit. This is by far my favorite waterfall hike on the island of Oahu. It always delivered. But it's also always wet and muddy. Embrace the rain and mud and you will rock it. Make sure you get a permit before going.

The last hike was Waimea Falls at Waimea Valley and Botanical Gardens. This place is so much more than a waterfall hike. Absolutely beautiful hike and a chance to learn about the Hawaiian people and culture along the way. If the weather is right (wet and rainy) then the waterfall will be flowing and you can swim in the pond and to the falls. Absolutely amazing. It can be a bit of money - but cheaper than the Polynesian Center.

🪖 If you new to our channel, we are a military family stationed in Hawaii for the next few years. John, my husband, re-enlisted in the military after being out for ten years. Kind of crazy. But John was a Marine and he loved the Marines. Afghanistan Veteran. The only reason he got out was for me. Back before online jobs or school, he gave up the Marines and allowed me to start my career. I had an amazing career spending years growing and working with Target as a Store Director. But with Covid came many changes. One of those was the desire to stay home and homeschool Alexandra and Hailey. And so it opened the door for John to do whatever he wanted to do. He re-enlisted, but this time we both agreed the Army. After being out so long, John had to go through Basic training again or OSUT. Six months of that followed by waiting for command sponsorship for our first OCONUS move and the family has been apart for 10 months. Crazy considering this wasn't a deployment. But we made it! We are now stationed at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii for the next 2 to 3 years and feel truly blessed to be here!
