At Osseo High School, Adam Larson's story is one of a young man who has come out of his shell. Although seeing him on stage in a lead performance, it's hard to believe Larson ever had a shell.
"He's a force onstage," said Megan McDonough, head of the school's drama department. "He comes on and people get excited."
Larson credits Osseo High School with helping him find his voice.
"I used to be more introverted because I didn't have an environment like this with such diversity and community atmosphere, that I didn't really feel comfortable stepping outside the box and being who I was," said Larson.
Larson's voice caught Doug Erlien's attention last year. Erlien is supervisor of the school's media club.
"[Hearing Adam's] deep, booming voice, I'm like, 'that's my guy. That is going to be the voice of Osseo.' And he was only a junior then," said Erlien.
Larson now hosts several weekly coaches shows for the school channel, the Osseo Voice.
"I think it just kind of shows his breadth, his ability to stretch and do different things, which I think is great," said Erlien.
This fall, Larson was named homecoming king at the high school, and Larson is also at home in his role as the basketball team manager.
"I run clock, I keep stats, that's what you could look at, or you could look at the relationship part," said Larson."Guys stop in the hall, just to shake my hand and say thank you. And I really appreciate that."
In this fall's musical, "Once Upon a Mattress" Larson's voice was silenced when he was cast as the mute king, but even that didn't stop Larson from earning a Hennepin Theatre Trust Spotlight award.
"There's just nothing he can't do. I walk in the door each day, and I'm amazed at what he does," said Erlien.
Larson foresees a career in sports management after college and maybe even a job as the athletic & activities director at Osseo High School.
