Описание к видео DRY SOCKET – Symptoms, treatment and causes of INFECTED tooth extraction | Dentalk! ©

Dry socket is an infection that can arise in the days after a tooth is extracted. But how does this infection originate? How long does it last? Which is the treatment? Here we explain it.

1) Introduction 00:00.
In this Dentalk from Clínica Médico Dental Pardiñas (http://j.mp/cPardinas) we talk about the causes, symptoms and treatment of dry socket.

2) What is dry socket? 00:38.
After a tooth extraction, a blood clot forms on the socket. This generates the first phases of healing and protects the nerve endings of the empty dental cavity. When this clot does not form, we speak of dry socket.

3) What is the cause of infection after tooth extraction? 01:07
The specific cause of dry socket is not really known, but it is suspected that there are several factors that may be involved such as bacterial or food debris contamination of the socket, excessive trauma during extraction, smoking and genetics.

4) What are the symptoms of dental socket? 02:06
When the nerve endings are exposed, intense pain is generated in the area, which usually appears during the first 3 days after a tooth extraction. Other symptoms are bad taste in the mouth and bad breath, swollen glands under the jaw and neck and fever.

5) Types of dry socket 02:28
Depending on the symptoms developed with this infection, we can distinguish between dry socket, where the clot does not form, or wet socket, where it forms but breaks due to some external cause.

6) How to prevent infection after an extraction 02:56
There are several effective recommendations to prevent the development of dry socket, such as avoiding smoking, drinking alcohol and exerting yourself excessively in the days after the extraction, extreme oral hygiene and chewing on the side opposite to the extraction for a week. Placement of plasma rich in growth factors (PRGF) in the alveolus also helps.

7) How is dental socket treated? 03:39
The main treatment is symptomatic with pain medication and/or antibiotics. It is also important to remove food debris by irrigating the area with saline solution. Curettage of the socket is sometimes recommended to decontaminate the bone surface and cause bleeding so that a new clot can form.
