Do you lose audio quality in analog gear using budget audio interfaces vs expensive AD/DA converters?

My name is Paul Third and this week on mixing wendesday we are looking at analog to digital converters, specifically testing the conversion of my audient id14 mk1 at 48khz compared to 96khz and also comparing that to a high grade converter in the form of access analog's lynx aurora (N) converter.

We are discussing audio myths surrounding bit depth and dynamic range and also comparing the conversion of a cheap audio interface vs lynx converters via a null test where i have flipped the phase of the original vocal and played both side by side.

Hopefully if you are a beginner audio engineer with a home studio wondering whether you should invest in an expensive DAC this can give you the right information to make a more informed decision and cut through all of the audio marketing hype.

Are home studio audio interfaces like focusrite scarlett, rme babyface and universal audio apollo ruining the audio quality of your analogue gear with its sub par conversion.. and do the expensive DAC's offer more transparent audio conversion?
