San Diego country music fans tuned into KSON’s morning team Mike and Kathy. Mike Novak was searching for a partner for a few months with no luck. Kathy White was already at the station, so they decided to give it a go. It clicked and they worked together for two and a half years until Mike left due to illness. Kathy did the show alone for a bit. When Mike returned, he did PM drive until he left to work for K-LOVE. CBS 8 reached out to him, and he wrote this:

"I was at K-LOVE for 20 years. The last 11 I was the CEO. 1,000 stations, over 550 employees and a rated listening audience of over 15-million people a week. All God, trust me. Retired 12/18 and moved to Texas. I’m a Law Enforcement Chaplain for the New Braunfels Police Department. I love it. Also, a Board member at Morgan’s Wonderland Camp. Livin’ life."

FINALLY TONIGHT... IF YOU LOVE COUNTRY MUSIC... YOU'RE NOT ALONE.
THE TOP-RATED RADIO STATION IN SAN DIEGO IS A COUNTRY STATION --’KSON.’
THE SAME THING IS TRUE IN A LOT OF CITIES-- COUNTRY MUSIC IS BIG BUSINESS.
THAT GIVES THE MORNING TEAM AT ‘KSON’ A BIG ADVANTAGE IN THE WAR FOR MORNING RADIO RATINGS.

Kathy says: Good Morning to you. It's going to rain on your little head today. Mike says: It's gonna be a nice day if you're at least three-quarters Mallard Duck...
THEY'VE BEEN A MORNING TEAM FOR ONLY A FEW MONTHS...BUT THEY SEEM TO BE CLICKING...
Kathy & Mike: back & forth
"tart? Huh? Huh? Speak up!
MIKE IS MIKE NOVAK...WHO WAS GOING SOLO...AND LOOKING FOR A PARTNER...UNTIL HE FOUND KATHY WHITE...WORKING AT THE SAME STATION...
Kathy says: And finally Mike just came to me one day after months of other people trying out and said ‘Hey, you want to do this?’ And I said ‘Yeah, we'll give it a try.’
It seems to work. The chemistry seems to be there. He's fun.
Mike says: K-SON in the morning Mike Novak, Kathy White here 8:45. Fifteen away from 9 O'clock.
Nice dancing there. I like that. Kathy says: You like that? A little salsa. All my Mexican friends are applauding. Mike: They are? Let's
listen. Wait, let's see if we hear 'em. No we didn't hear 'em at all
Mike says: We tried two or three different other people here in the studio and it worked.
But it wasn't something I was real comfortable with and Kathy stepped forward about the end of last year.
And was kinda started hanging out together and it's worked out well since.

Kathy says: That's been the misconception of the stereotypical country music listener for years. I've been in country music since
the early 80's and we have doctorc, lawyers, Indian chiefs. We have all kinds of people listening to it.
THEY MAY NOT HAVE BEEN COOUNTRY MUSIC FANS BEFORE...
BUT THEY ARE NOW...

Mike: The music is an integral part of K-Son. We've found in talking to our core listeners that they want the music. They also want
us. They want entertainment in the morning, which I think we provide, but yeah, music is a big part of what we do.
