In my longest video to date, we go on a deep dive into the #NFTgame and #crypto game #godsunchained and review it from the perspective of a gamer.
Gods Unchained is a decentralized competitive card game. At its core Gods Unchained is a blockchain-based game, enabling users to trade and sell their cards freely, attempting to create a digital trading card game where users can "truly own" their cards. However, I have some doubts regarding that claim.
Gods Unchained's marketing campaign focuses on "True Ownership", indicating that they're looking out for the player's best interest by allowing this marketplace system. However, with a 9% transaction fee on every purchase and card packs that retail for $120 for only 5 cards, are they really looking out for the players, or are they just looking to hop on the crypto trend to make a quick buck?
God's Unchained's gameplay is an almost perfect clone of Hearthstone, a much more popular game, and one that does not include Crypto. Additionally, despite being in beta for 5 years now, Gods Unchained still feels very unpolished. Almost all of the cards share the same set of sounds and animations, the client is nothing more than a placeholder, and there is a serious lack of tutorials.
If I didn't already know how to play Hearthstone and have a decent understanding of crypto, there is just no way I would find this game worth the time investment. The learning curve that crypto carries is way too steep, plus the game hiding beneath the barrage of crypto and Web3 terms isn't that great to begin with.
With a peak playerbase of nearly 40,000, Gods Unchained now comfortably sits below 8,000 players on any day. And this isn't accounting for the large amount that are just bots, as the game does reward you a few cents an hour for playing the game. The company behind the game, ImmutableX, recently partnered with declining brick-and-mortar game store GameStop in a $100 million venture to expand Web 3 gaming. Why GameStop, a company that sells way better games than this, thinks that this game will be the pioneer of Web3 gaming, is beyond me.
Oh yeah, GameStop is a Web3 company now too. Maybe I'll talk about them in a future video, depending on if it's something people are interested in seeing.
Anyway, that's about it. Thanks for watching, or if you actually read all of this, thanks for reading too!
