In many predominantly Catholic countries, children anticipate the arrival of the three Magi (Wise Men) on Three Kings' Day instead of or in addition to Saint Nicholas/Santa Clause on Christmas Eve. The holiday, also known as "Epiphany," is celebrated with various customs in places including Puerto Rico, Mexico, Spain, Portugal, Poland, Italy, Germany, and many other countries around the globe. For many children who celebrate the holiday, it is customary to leave hay/grass and water in a shoebox or shoes before going to bed on January 5th in hopes of receiving a gift in return from the Wise Men when they awake on January 6th.
