Good morning, everyone. Today, I want to share a reflection on a powerful and intimate verse from Psalm 5:3. The verse says, “In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.”
David, the psalmist, speaks these words with a heart full of both trust and anticipation. He begins his day not with the rush of activities or the clutter of thoughts, but with the simple yet profound act of offering his voice to God. There is something deeply powerful in the way David chooses to start his morning—by bringing his heart and his concerns to God. It is a reminder that before we take on the tasks of the day, we should first align ourselves with God, bringing our petitions before Him, and waiting in faith.
What does it mean for us to say, "In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice"? It is a declaration of trust. It’s David’s acknowledgment that God is listening, not just in the big moments of life, but in the quiet moments of the day as well. God hears us when we speak, when we pray, when we pour out our hearts. And He hears us in the mornings, in the stillness before the world wakes up. There’s something sacred about the quiet of the early morning, a time when we can commune with God without distraction.
But David doesn't just speak; he also lays his requests before God. He doesn’t hold anything back. He brings everything before the Lord—the concerns of his heart, the burdens of his day, the hopes and the struggles. He offers them to God, trusting that God will respond. There is no need to hide or pretend with God. David shows us that we can bring all of our concerns—big and small—to God. Our requests don’t have to be perfect or eloquent; they just need to be sincere.
Then, David’s act of waiting expectantly is such a beautiful expression of faith. It’s easy to pray and then move on, forgetting that prayer is a two-way conversation. But David teaches us to wait. To wait expectantly means to trust that God will answer, to trust in His timing, His wisdom, and His goodness. Waiting can be one of the hardest parts of the Christian life, especially in our fast-paced world, but David shows us that there is beauty in the waiting. When we wait expectantly, we affirm our belief that God will show up in His perfect way.
This verse invites us into a practice that can transform our mornings and our hearts. It invites us to make God our first priority each day, bringing our voices to Him in prayer. It invites us to lay our requests before Him without hesitation, trusting that He will hear and respond. And it invites us to wait with expectancy, knowing that God is faithful and that His timing is always perfect.
As we begin our day today, let us take a moment to pause, to speak to God, and to lay before Him our hopes, our burdens, and our requests. And as we do, let us wait expectantly, knowing that He hears us, He loves us, and He will respond in His perfect way. May our mornings be filled with the peace of knowing that we’ve started our day with God, trusting Him to guide us through whatever comes.
Let’s pray. Lord, thank You for hearing us. Thank You for being present with us in the quiet moments of the morning. Help us to lay our requests before You, trusting in Your goodness. Teach us to wait expectantly, knowing that You are always faithful. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
